Fowlerville, Michigan. (January 24, 2025) - VFW Post 6464 & Auxiliary are pleased to announce Grace M. Schneider, an 8th grade student Perry Middle School, as the post/auxiliary first-place winner and recipient of $400.00 Scholarship for 2024-2025 Patriot's Pen youth essay contest. Grace, who was sponsored by VFW Post 6464 and its Auxiliary in Fowlerville, Michigan, wrote her winning essay based on this year’s theme, "My Voice in America’s Democracy?”
The VFW enacted the Patriot’s Pen youth essay competition in 1995 as a way to encourage young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society while improving their writing skills.
The contest is a worldwide competition that gives students in grades 6, 7 and 8 the opportunity to write a 300- to 400-word theme-based essay expressing their views on democracy while competing for worthwhile awards and prizes.
Nine students participated in the Post competition this year. As one of finalists, Grace will compete at VFW District 6, for individual awards. Grace will receive her post/auxiliary scholarship award with other awardees February 8, 2025, at VFW Post 6464, 7th Annual Awards Banquet.
