Teacher of the Year Winners Press Release

Fowlerville, Michigan. (January 24, 2025) – VFW Post 6464 and Auxiliary is proud to announce the following Teachers as our Post winners:

Nicole Elliott, a 2nd grade teacher at Webberville Elementary in Webberville, Michigan, the K–5 winner of the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award, Post/Auxiliary winner

Tammy Hosford, a 6th grade teacher at Williamston Middle School in Williamston, Michigan, the 6-8 winner of the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award, Post/Auxiliary winner

Jill Thomas, teaching 10th through 12th grades; teacher at Fowlerville High School, Fowlerville, Michigan, the 9-12 grade winner of the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award, Post/Auxiliary winner

Our teachers were selected from entries submitted to VFW Post 6464 from six school districts. 

Sponsored by VFW Post 6464 and its Auxiliary in Fowlerville, Michigan, each Teacher will receive a Post and Auxiliary Citation, along with and check for $300.00.  The Awards to be issued on February 8, 2025.  The 7th Annual Awards Banquet will be held at VFW Post 6464, 215 Veterans Drive, Fowlerville, Michigan.

Their commitment to teach the value of citizenship and patriotism to their students will greatly benefit our communities as these students grow into involved adults,” said VFW Post Commander William (Butch) Ogden.

The VFW Teacher of the Year award program was enacted in 1999 as a way to identify and recognize America’s best educators who instill a sense of national pride in students by teaching citizenship education topics regularly and promoting America’s history and traditions effectively. The program continues to exceed expectations and program administrators expect the number of participants will continue to grow each year.
