To Whom It May Concern:
It is with great pleasure that I nominate Jennifer Johnson as a candidate for VFW Teacher of the Year. Jen is the Social Studies teacher for grades 3-5 at Kreeger Elementary School in Fowlerville Michigan. She has made Social Studies a special class for all students in the building by using creative teaching techniques to bring the subject to life. She uses a variety of strategies to engage children while teaching the important core values of American citizenship. Her lessons on Constitution Day are a highlight to the year. She uses many opportunities to reinforce the rights and privileges we have as citizens of the United States. She also effectively teaches about the sacrifices it took to grain the freedoms that we often take for granted.
I have known Jen as a teacher for approximately 15 years. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan and is proud alumni of their marching band. Jen uses techniques from her days in the band to maintain a sense of discipline within her classes while caring and respecting everyone around her, staff, and students alike.
Jen is very humble and never seeks attention for the effort she puts into teaching. She always puts others in front herself. Before nominating her for the VFW Teacher of the year I wanted to seek her permission. Her response was: Thank you so much. I don't feel worthy of that honor. If they were to say yes to me. I would gladly accept -but again, I am not worthy to receive something like this from people who have risked it all!! This is an example of the humility and gratitude which she exudes in every situation.
In my opinion, Jennifer Johnson is an outstanding candidate for the VFW Teacher of the Year. Her love, loyalty, and passion for both her profession and county are above reproach. She always puts others before herself.
